Photographic-Truth

Photographic truth Reflection

The assignment consisted of arranging 6 panels on one topic. We had to choose pictures from the internet and post ourselves in them as if we were actually there. First, I found my pictures, I chose to do my project on the “old west”. Then I cropped the pictures with the cropping tool to make them the right size. What “photographic truth” refers to is, Is the media always truthful? And How can Images be manipulated to change their meaning?
The first picture I chose to alter is  a wooden building that looks like what would have been a saloon. To add y self I pretended to be leaning on one of the columns of the building with my right leg over my left one. My second picture is in a rodeo but I’m actually riding the horse myself, I placed my self on the horse with my hand up in the air, there is also one effect of a guy up side down in the air which I meant to make it look like he just got kicked by my horse. The third pictures takes place at another rodeo while two men are trying to hold back a horse that is not responding to my commands, I placed my self in front of the horse as if trying to calm it down. The fourth panel consists of a guy doing cattle round up and I’m helping the guy by blocking the way the cows go. The fifth photograph I’m standing in a group of people and It’s more of a comic picture than a serious one, I’m holing a riffle in my hand with the rest of the women while the men are wearing dresses and skirts. Finally, I have a wanted picture where I’m wanted dead or alive.
I chose to work with an old west theme. I have always liked the whole idea of living in the countryside and being able to work physically with horses and farm animals. Also, another aspect of the old west that intrigues me is how there were so many rebels who decided to just be free and live their life how they chose to live it. My perspective on this project is to have it be comical/serious since that is how my personality is.
Photographic truth made me think twice of who I am, it made me question myself “what if I was in that position?” or “what if it was worse and I was a child in an orphanage?” I taught me to appreciate what I have today for today and to not think so much of what will happen tomorrow. I definitely enjoyed the assignment, because I had fun placing myself around in different time eras. It wasn’t that difficult for me because It was much more about copying and pasting rather than having to change small details. I believe I succeeded in this project because the pictures are understandable and well done. If I had the chance to do the assignment over again I would do another topic, maybe I would place myself winning a Latin Grammy or hitting a homerun on a softball field.
